WHAT CAN US EDUCATIONAL POLICY MAKERS LEARN FROM NEW ZEALAND?

The New Zealand School System has created a virtual school system called the Virtual Learning Network.  Its purpose is to "establish an online environment supporting asynchronous and synchronous learning across New Zealand and beyond in-line with the Ministry of Education’s s-Learning Action Plan for Schools 2006-2010 (Enabling the 21st century learner)."  Cicso (2012)

This collaborative effort of new Zealand schools offers both students and teachers an opportunity to share and learn throughout the region. The US educational policy makers could model this format. It could assist schools to acclimate to technology integration with built in support.

In addition, the New Zealand educational system is very inclusive of its indigenous people in its educational policies.  The US could be more inclusive of its indigenous population.  Not only in education but in its economic system as well.

The Online Resource that the teachers have is an excellent way to both promote and offer resources for teachers in E-learning.  The teachers here could benefit from an online E-Learning Website as a primary resource also.

As a result the country of New Zealand is very 21st century forward   and focused in its educational vision and philosophy for its students.

New Zealands' goal and vision is to create lifelong learners who will be positive contributors to the global society.
